Why we’re called
Walan Miya

Walan and Miya are Wiradjuri words meaning ‘strong together’.

The Wiradjuri are the largest Aboriginal group in New South Wales. They once occupied a vast area in central New South Wales, on the plains running north and south to the west of the Blue Mountains.

Our work is underpinned by the value we place on building strong business and community relationships with both indigenous and non-indigenous clients, individuals and groups. There is strength in working together.

We’re very proud to be one of only two indigenous-owned registered job training organisations in New South Wales. We chose our name as a demonstration of our commitment to working with Aboriginal communities in New South Wales.

Our long-term vision is to play a real part in creating sustainable economic and social opportunities for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities through our focus on training and employment.

Walan Miya acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and their continuing connection to land, sea and community. We pay our respects to them and their cultures, to the Elders past, present, and emerging.
