Kickstart your career in one of Australia’s most in-demand industries with a fee-free apprenticeship or traineeship through Walan Miya. Thanks to NSW Government funding, eligible students can train with no tuition fees and earn a nationally recognised qualification while getting paid on the job.

Our programs combine hands-on experience with structured learning, giving you the practical skills employers are looking for right now. With training costs covered for apprentices and new entrant trainees until 30 June 2027, there’s never been a better time to get started.

The NSW government is currently funding training for both new entrant apprentices as well as existing worker apprentices. This means that, depending on eligibility criteria, also existing workers can get fee free training through the existing worker apprenticeship path.

1. What is an apprenticeship?

2. How long does an apprenticeship take?

Most apprenticeships take between 3 to 4 years, depending on the industry, the qualification level, and whether the apprentice is full-time or part-time.

3. Who can do an apprenticeship?

Apprenticeships are open to school leavers, adult career changers, and upskillers. You must be 15 years or older and an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold an eligible visa.

4. Do apprentices get paid?

Yes! Apprentices are paid a training wage that increases over time. Wages depend on your age, the industry, and the award rate. Some also qualify for government incentives and travel allowances.

5. What industries offer apprenticeships?

Apprenticeships are common in trades like construction, plumbing, electrical, hairdressing, automotive, hospitality, and more. Some industries also offer newer digital and tech-based apprenticeships.

7. What’s the difference between an apprenticeship and a traineeship?

Both offer paid work and formal training, but apprenticeships are typically for licensed trades (like electricians or plumbers), while traineeships are for non-trade roles (like business, retail, or community services).

8. Can I start an apprenticeship while still at school?

Yes! Through School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs), you can start training part-time while completing your senior years of school.

9. Will I get a qualification at the end?

Yes, successful apprentices receive a nationally recognised qualification, such as a Certificate III or IV, relevant to their trade or industry.

10. What support is available during an apprenticeship?

Apprentices have access to:

  • Mentors and trainers through their RTO. We support you every step of the way!!!
  • Workplace support from their employer
  • Financial assistance such as Trade Support Loans
  • Career guidance from Australian Apprenticeship Support Network (AASN) providers
